02

What's new

Why Nano Banana 2.1 Is Worth Trying Right Now

In Google's own launch benchmarks, Nano Banana 2.1 scores ahead of both Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana Pro on overall preference. Here is what that means in practice. Every figure is Google's claim, labelled and dated, not an independent test.

Nano Banana 2.1 vs Nano Banana 2 vs Nano Banana Pro

How Google's October 2026 release compares with the model it succeeds and with the premium Pro model. Nano Banana 2.1 ranks first on every preference score in the table, with its widest lead in multi-character consistency, while Nano Banana 2 and Pro sit within a point of each other on multi-reference editing.

What You Can Do with Nano Banana 2.1

One model for generating, editing and combining images, all in your browser.

Text to image

Write the way you would brief a designer: subject, setting, light and mood. Then choose auto, 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4 or 21:9 and get a finished image. Start with a quick 1K draft, then re-run the winner at 4K.

Natural-language editing

Upload a photo and say what to change: swap the background, restyle an outfit, shift the lighting or recolor a product. Your photo is the starting point, so the composition carries over, and you can keep refining the result with follow-up edits.

Multi-image composition

Combine up to 4 reference images, such as a person, a product, a style and a location, into one coherent scene. The model itself accepts up to 14 references (4 characters and 10 objects), and 4 covers most edits. Tell the model what role each image plays.

Clear text in images

Titles, labels and short captions render legibly for posters, ads and mockups, and Google highlights localized text across several languages. Put the exact wording in quotes for the best results, and keep each line short.

Subject consistency

Keep faces, products and mascots recognizable across a series. Google notes that character consistency is not always perfect, so check every frame before you publish, and reuse the same reference image to anchor the look.

1K, 2K and 4K output

Draft at 1K for 2 credits, step up to 2K for 3, or go straight to 4K for 4. Same prompt, same model, your call. Spend more only on the images that earn it.

Ads and social posts
Turn one brief into on-brand visuals sized for every channel: 1:1 for feeds, 9:16 for stories, 16:9 for banners. Try: a summer sale poster with the headline "SUMMER SALE" centered at the top. Change only the aspect ratio to get a matching set. Great for launches, promotions and event announcements.

Product photos
Upload a product shot and restage it on bold color backdrops or in new scenes like a kitchen counter, while keeping the product recognizable across your whole catalog. Useful for seasonal campaigns, marketplace listings and quick A/B tests of backgrounds. Keep the product photo as your reference every time.

Storyboards and characters
Hold a character steady from frame to frame for comics, pitch decks and concept art. Upload your character sheet as a reference, then describe each new scene: the setting, the action and the camera angle. Save each frame in My Creations to build the full sequence.

Posters and infographics
Lay out headlines, labels and simple diagrams in one pass. Treat the first result as a strong draft, then refine the wording and layout with a follow-up prompt. Always proofread facts and figures before you publish. Works for menus, flyers, covers and explainers.

Prompt guide

How to Write Prompts for Nano Banana 2.1

Three habits that turn a lucky image into a repeatable result. Each one is quick to apply and saves credits.

Name the subject, setting, lighting, camera angle and mood in full sentences. Weak: "a coffee shop". Strong: "A cozy corner coffee shop at golden hour seen from a low table-level angle, steam rising from a ceramic cup in the foreground, flat graphic illustration with cobalt-blue shadows and warm orange sunlight, bold simple shapes." The more concrete the picture in your head, the less the model has to guess.

Say what the words are and where they go. Example: a poster with the headline "OPEN MIC NIGHT" in bold capitals at the top and a smaller line "Friday 8 PM" beneath it. Short headlines and labels work best, so keep paragraphs out of the image, and spell unusual names exactly as you want them.

Found something close? Upload that result as a reference and describe only the change: "same scene, but make the sky deep sunset orange". With several references, give each one a job, such as "image 1 is the character, image 2 is the location". You keep what worked and spend credits only on what changes.

Google offers Nano Banana 2.1 in the Gemini app with a Google AI plan, and the Gemini API has no free tier for it. Here, every new account gets 2 free credits, enough for one 1K image with a watermarked preview. Downloading the full-quality original needs any paid plan. Free previews are watermarked, so you can judge the result before you spend anything.

A 1K image costs 2 credits, a 2K image 3 credits and a 4K image 4 credits. Plans start at $2.99 for 20 credits, about 10 images at 1K. Pro Monthly gives 60 credits for $6.99 and Pro Yearly gives 700 credits for $57.99. If a generation fails, your credits are refunded automatically.

Yes. Upload up to 4 reference images in JPG, PNG or WebP and describe the change you want, such as a new background, outfit or lighting. The model itself supports up to 14 references, with up to 4 characters and 10 objects. Large photos are resized in your browser before upload, so uploads stay fast.

You can generate at 1K, 2K or 4K in auto, 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4 and 21:9. 1K is ideal for drafts and social posts, 2K suits web pages and presentations, and 4K is best for print, ads and large displays. All three are open to every account.

In Google's own tests (Thinking mode, October 2026), Nano Banana 2.1 scores 1050 on overall preference against 990 for Nano Banana 2 and 935 for Nano Banana Pro. Its largest reported gains are in multi-character consistency, infographic design and multi-reference editing. These scores come from Google and have not been independently verified. The comparison table above shows every score side by side.

Yes, with sensible limits. ColorChanger does not claim ownership of the images you create, and full-quality downloads can be used in personal and commercial projects. You are responsible for the prompts and reference images you provide and for following applicable law and Google's usage policies. Free watermarked previews are for evaluation only, and AI-generated images may not qualify for copyright protection in every country.

If a generation fails or times out, the credits are returned to your account automatically, and you can try again with the same prompt. Your finished images are saved in My Creations. Failed attempts never cost you a credit.
